Initial Scenario
The new SDLC framework in use today focuses on value delivery and is the consistent framework used across the technology organization.
-
Revised job descriptions for Agile scrum masters and product owners – used for hiring 18 new full time employees within the organization
-
Migration of all work-artifacts including over 2400 requirements from Atlassian JIRA to Azure DevOps
-
Creation of 15+ program level dashboards used by technology and business teams to track progress
-
Delivery of 8+ large programs using the new SDLC framework with iterative and incremental feature delivery
-
First ever cadence-based block planning with 6 week cycles from planning to execution to deployment
-
Customized Scaling framework built on agile-scaling principles with aligned sprints and execution cycles
-
Organization continues to use the revised SDLC framework and iterative it’s process based on feedback from internal leaders and our coaches
How Agile Brains assisted
The Agile Brains team was asked to start with an initial assessment focusing on current processes and culture. Our team of Agile coaches started with an assessment with interviews of the Leadership teams and attended the different delivery team meetings to evaluate their current state. The assessment results showed that the teams were vastly different in managing their projects, process flow framework and were using their project management tool, JIRA in ways they deemed fit.
The assessment results focused on creating appropriate consistent roles within the Agile teams, better ways to manage lights-on support work, a centralized program management office for managing large programs and an improved SDLC framework. A recommended timeline with support from our Agile coaches was created and formalized with the client.
The Lean process consultants from Agile Brains helped create consistent roles for their scrum masters, product owners and cross-functional team members. Value-based delivery, Capacity planning and alignment of sprints were key components of the newly revised SDLC framework. The organization quickly learnt having cadence based planning and delivery schedules would minimize dependencies and improve feature delivery.
Even though the teams were using JIRA, they were highly interested in using a single execution tool which would allow for build, code, deploy and release functionality. Over the course of the engagement, Agile Brains assisted the group to migrate towards Azure DevOps to manage their entire life-cycle from conception to production. Team members were trained in ADO by our team and team and program level dashboards were put in place to track progress.
